The Big Brown Land that encompasses a third of the Australian Continent, Western Australia, is a place of uniqueness.
The following are some facts about this place we call WA.

* Before it was Perth it was Boorloo. Boorloo formed part of Mooro, the tribal lands of Yellagonga, whose group was one of several who lived around the Swan River, known as Whadjug.

* As well as being the most Isolated capital city in the world, Perth is the sunniest, enjoying an average eight hours of sunshine on any given day.

* Perth houses the oldest operating Mint in Australia.
This mint was established in 1899 and has carved out a nice in producing gold, silver and platinum coins. The Mint also provides refuge to a Museum.

* Perth is known as the "City of Light". The naming is the result of the fact that when Astronaut John Glen orbited the earth in 1962, he could identify Perth because everyone turned on all their lights, making Perth highly visible.

* About 5 thousand years ago, one could travel from Perth to Rottnest Island on foot.

* Perth is the only city in the World where aircraft can land in the Central Business District.

* Perth has the highest population per capita of self mad Millionairs.

* Some of the largest surfing waves in the world can be found in Western Australia's
Margaret River region.

* Western Australia has the largest privately owned rail network in the World.

* Perth is the Capital City in the World with the most consistent WIND.

* Western Australia has the Worlds Oldest Operating Open Air Cinema, Sun Pictures, in Broome, opened on December 16th 1916.

* The town of Kalgoorlie in Western Australia is Australias largest producer of Gold.

* The Argyle Mine, in the Kimberley region in the far northeast area of Western Australia is the Worlds Largest Single Producer of Diamonds.

* Broome holds the Largest Pearl Industry in the World.

* Western Australia is 2,525,500 sq km - approx. 10 times the size of the UK.

* Western Australia is the richest plot of land in the World for Natural Mineral Wealth.

*The jetty at Busselton is the longest and oldest wooden jetty in the Southern Hemisphere.

* Western Australia has the highest number of bird pollinated flower species in the WORLD. :o :arrow:
